IFA's Holistic Health Seminar and Free Health Screenings for Metro DC/Alexandria, VA Residents

June 12th, Alexandria, VA: IFA hosted a free health seminar focused on practical solutions for many common health concerns.  As a service to the local community, participants received free blood glucose testing and blood pressure screenings along with a "starter kit" for proper nutrition and healthy living.  During the seminar, Anteneh Roba M.D. discussed preventative measures emphasizing proper nutrition as a means of attaining optimal health and reducing the risk of chronic disease.

  VA
Future seminars will discuss the role of nutrition and lifestyle factors on the management, mitigation, control and reversal of high blood pressure, metabolic disorders, cancer, coronary artery disease, and other chronic diseases without the use of pharmaceutical medications or invasive surgery.

Houston Chronicle Profiles IFA's Efforts to Save Lives All Over the World: "Saving Lives In Hospital, Abroad And In The Air".

Dr. Anteneh Roba, an emergency room doctor at Houston's Northwest Medical Center in Texas, had a life-changing experience in 2003 when he visited his native Ethiopia.  Not having been there since prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Roba witnessed  first hand the suffering and deaths of babies and newborns from diseases that were preventable and treatable.  Upon his return to the U.S. where he had become a citizen in 1996, he knew he had to do something to alleviate this needless suffering in Africa.

The 2nd Annual So-Cal Vegan Earth Day Celebration

Cal

"PlanetFest", the 2nd Annual Southern California Vegan Earth Day celebration, was Emceed by Bob Linden and sponsored by Go Vegan Radio (www.goveganradio.com) along with The International Fund for Africa (www.ifundafrica.org).   The event included a consortium of live musical performances, pro Athletes, Physicians, Health Professionals, Environmentalists, Activists, Chefs, Animal Rescue Groups, Animal Law experts, a diverse mix of local vegan restaurants and eco-oriented product vendors. The event was endorsed by Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and attracted a wide range of concerned citizens, sports fans, health enthusiasts and families seeking family-oriented education and entertainment. PlanetFest relies exclusively on grassroots support to advance eco-conscious, compassionate lifestyles and business practices.

ifa"PlanetFest's" focus is on positive action that addresses the issues of climate change, deforestation, drought, soil erosion, resource depletion, desertification, habitat loss, world hunger, disease, poverty, violence, war, and animal suffering.  PlanetFest differentiates itself from other "Earth Day" events by emphasizing delicious and nutritious vegan foods whose cultivation has a positive impact on the environment and human health.  Other "Earth Day" festivals are aligned and financially dependent on trans-national corporations that have substantial financial interests in making products that harm the environment and cause serious health concerns in humans.  The SoCal "PlanetFest" event promoted viable and effective solutions to the causes and consequences of the human health crisis and climate change as it demonstrated the harmful effects of the current unsustainable food production systems and their devastating effects on the earth's population.

Cal IFA would like to thank the non-profit organizations Go Vegan Radio for their caring support and sponsorships.

IFA and Elizabeth Kucinich Ask Congressional Representatives to Support The Great Ape Protection Act/ HR 1326

On June 10, 2010, IFA Co-Founder, Anteneh Roba, M.D.. and Elizabeth Kucinich (Director of Public Affairs for PCRM and wife of Congressman Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio) lobbied Congress regarding the Great Ape Protection Act (H.R. 1326). The proposed legislation would prohibit the breeding, transport and invasive research of great apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, orangutans, and gibbons). H.R. 1326 also seeks to stop government funded primate research and would require the release of all federally-owned great apes into sanctuaries
