Dedication Held for New Neonatal Floor of Yekatit 12 Hospital

In January, Yekatit-12 Hospital held a private ceremony to dedicate the 2nd floor of the new, 4-floor pediatric building at Yekatit 12 hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. IFA's co-founder and families participated in the unveiling of the plaque dedicating the floor to Mrs. Amsale Gessesse, the mother and aunt of the two co-founders of IFA, formerly named the Amsale Gessesse Memorial Foundation. The plaque stands as a commemoration honoring IFA co-founders' ceaseless efforts in Addis Ababa to create a world-class neonatology unit that will offer premature newborns and those born with complications the chance to live long and healthy lives.

A public unveiling of the facility will take place in an official ceremony in the next few months.

IFA Featured in Animal Citizen, Newsletter
of the Animal Welfare Board of India

IFA President Anteneh Roba recently penned an article for Animal Citizen, a quarterly magazine published by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) that highlights IFA's efforts in Africa. As the organization that has led the animal welfare movement in India for 50 years, AWBI became interested in IFA's work and achievements in Ethiopia. Dr. Roba's article, featured in the October-December, 2012, issue of the magazine, addresses "IFA's Efforts to Protect Non-Human Life and Promote Veganism in Africa," and describes the programs in Africa. It especially focuses on IFA's spay/neuter and vaccination program, collaboration with organizations from both Ethiopia and the United States, and its successes in utilizing the media to communicate the benefits of veganism.

IFA President Speaks on "Companion Animals"

On January 16, 2013, Dr. Anteneh Roba was featured on the Dr. Don radio show, which broadcasts from Bullhead City, Arizona. Dr. Don Wagner's show, which frequently discusses the benefits of a plant-based diet, welcomed Dr. Roba to speak about the role of "Companion Animals" in human lives.

Explaining his own life-changing experience when he decided to take a young dog, Nikita, under his care in the 1990s, Dr. Roba focused on the ways animals provide us with a gateway to compassion. Never considering himself a dog-guardian or care-taker, Dr. Roba developed a companionship with his Maltese dog Nikita that inspired him to co-found IFA, and to work on behalf of animals, both human and non-human, in Africa. After describing to Dr. Don the incredible impact Nikita had on his own life, Dr. Roba discussed the extensive work that IFA has done in just the past few years.
